Travel Guide

Planning your journey well makes all the difference.

This guide is designed to help you travel through India—and beyond—with comfort, confidence, and ease

Before You Travel

Passport & Visa

All travelers must carry a valid passport with at least six months validity beyond the date of return and an appropriate Indian visa prior to arrival:

  • Special permits may be required for restricted regions such as Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and select border areas.
  • If your itinerary involves exiting and re-entering India within 60 days, ensure you apply for a double or multiple-entry visa.
  • It is the traveler’s responsibility to obtain all necessary documentation before departure.

Health & Well-Being

No mandatory vaccinations are required to enter India. However:

  • Basic precautions against mosquito bites are advised, especially in outdoor settings at dusk.
  • Drink only bottled or purified water and use bottled water for brushing teeth.
  • Carry personal medications, prescriptions, and basic remedies, as familiar brands may not always be available locally.

Travel tip: Staying hydrated and maintaining simple food habits during the first few days helps your body adjust smoothly.

Climate & Best Time to Travel

India’s climate varies by region and season.

  • Winter (Nov–Mar): Pleasant days, cooler nights in North India.
  • Summer (Apr–Jun): Hot, especially in North and Central India.
  • Monsoon (Jul–Sep): Lush landscapes, occasional heavy rainfall.
  • Autumn (Oct): Transitional and comfortable

South India generally experiences warmer temperatures year-round. Light cotton clothing works best for most of the year, with warmer layers recommended for northern regions during winter.

What to Pack

Clothing

  • Comfortable, breathable cotton clothing.
  • Light trousers, skirts, or dresses.
  • A light jacket or wrap (especially for air-conditioned spaces).
  • Modest attire for visiting religious sites.
  • Comfortable walking shoes that are easy to slip on and off.
  • Sandals, swimwear, and evening footwear.

Laundry services are available at most hotels, so over-packing is unnecessary.

Essentials

  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat.
  • Personal toiletries and skincare.
  • Prescription medicines (packed in carry-on luggage).
  • Travel adapter (220–240V, round pin sockets).
  • Small backpack or tote for day excursions.

Money & Payments

  • The local currency is the Indian Rupee (INR).
  • ATMs are widely available in cities and towns.
  • Credit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants, and large stores.
  • Keep foreign exchange receipts, as they may be required when reconverting currency or at departure.

Local Customs & Etiquette

Places of Worship

  • Modest clothing is required.
  • Shoes must be removed before entering temples and religious sites.
  • Carry socks for comfort.

Photography

  • Always ask before photographing people, religious sites, or tribal communities.

  • Photography is restricted in certain high-security areas.

Respect for local customs enhances your travel experience and fosters meaningful connections.

Cuisine & Dining

Indian cuisine is diverse, regional, and layered with flavours. Meals often balance six tastes—sweet, sour, salty, spicy, bitter, and astringent.

Spices are traditionally used not just for taste, but for their digestive and medicinal qualities. If you prefer mild food, simply inform your guide or restaurant staff—most places are happy to accommodate.

Language & Communication

India is home to multiple languages and dialects.
English is widely spoken, especially in hotels, airports, and tourist areas, making communication easy for international travellers.

Tipping Guidelines

Tipping in India is customary but not obligatory. It is appreciated for good service and often expected by service staff such as drivers, guides, and hotel porters. Your tour consultant will guide you on appropriate tipping norms based on your itinerary.
